GOOBJOOG NEWS | BAKU: Somalia and Azerbaijan signed a wide-ranging agreement on Monday to strengthen cooperation in agriculture, focusing on innovation, investment, and climate resilience.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed in Baku by Somalia’s Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Mohamed A. Hayir Maareeye, and his Azerbaijani counterpart, Majnun Mammadov.
The deal aims to advance bilateral ties through shared expertise and joint development initiatives in the agricultural sector.
Key areas of cooperation include technology transfer, trade facilitation, and sustainable development of Somalia’s arable land.
The agreement also paves the way for agricultural scholarships for Somali students, collaborative research programmes, and the implementation of climate-resilient irrigation systems.
In a forward-looking move, the two ministers discussed the integration of artificial intelligence in agriculture, underscoring a mutual commitment to modernising the sector through innovation.
The agreement marks a strategic milestone in Somalia’s efforts to boost food security, attract foreign investment, and build long-term resilience in the face of climate challenges.
