Somalia Backs Unified Arab Economic Strategy Ahead of Baghdad Summits

GOOBJOOG NEWS | CAIRO: Somalia’s Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Ali Abdi Aware, joined senior Arab officials in Cairo for a preparatory session of the Arab League’s Economic and Social Council, ahead of two key summits set to take place in Baghdad on May 17.
Speaking at the meeting, Ambassador Aware underscored the need for coordinated Arab action to tackle shared regional challenges. He highlighted the importance of deepening economic and social cooperation to support sustainable development across the Arab world.
Delegates reviewed a range of strategic issues, including food security, the blue economy, artificial intelligence, and the expansion of intra-Arab trade. These areas, officials said, are vital to boosting regional integration and building long-term resilience.
The upcoming summits in Baghdad, the regular and the developmental sessions—are expected to shape the next phase of Arab economic collaboration amid evolving global and regional dynamics.
