GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: A group of 165 Somali migrants stranded in Libya arrived safely in Mogadishu on Thursday in a joint operation by the Federal Government, the European Union and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The return was organised under IOM’s Voluntary Humanitarian Return programme, which supports vulnerable migrants seeking to go back to their countries of origin. The EU-funded initiative provides travel assistance, protection support and guidance for reintegration.

The latest arrival brings the number of Somali migrants returned from Libya this year to nearly 557, underscoring continued efforts to help citizens trapped in harsh conditions in North Africa.

Officials said the operation is part of a broader humanitarian push to ensure the safe, dignified and voluntary return of Somalis facing danger or abuse along irregular migration routes.

The Federal Government, IOM and the EU said they will continue working together to promote safe and orderly migration while helping returnees rebuild their lives in their home communities.
