GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Federal Republic of Somalia has called for restraint in the escalating tension in the Middle East which it said threatens regional and global stability.

In a statement released Sunday, Somalia said it was “deeply concerned” over the recent hostilities following a drone and missile attack by Iran against Israel, marking a direct military conflict between the two nations.

Somalia also called for an urgent cessation of attacks by Israel in Gaza saying it supports a two-state solution to the conflict reiterating Palestinian right to self-determination and justice.

Further, Somalia urged the international community to intervene in seeking a de-escalation of the Middle East tension and prevent further conflict.

Addressing a Security Council meeting convened in response to the Iranian strikes against Israel, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres emphasized the critical need to “defuse and de-escalate” the dangerous situation.

United States president Joe Biden said that US forces will directly get involved in any potential Israeli counter-offensive against Iran, indicating a cautious U.S. approach aimed at avoiding further escalation.
