Aviation Students Get Hands-On Experience in Study Tour of Airport in Baidoa

GOOBJOOG NEWS | BAIDOA: Somalia took another step toward revitalizing its aviation industry as civil aviation students from Mogadishu University conducted a practical training visit to Shaati Gaduud International Airport in Baidoa, part of a broader initiative to build a skilled national workforce for the sector.
The study tour, led by faculty members, university administrators, and the student union chairman, gave students hands-on exposure to key airport functions, including air traffic control systems, flight operations, and airport management protocols.
The visit was warmly received by airport officials, who reiterated their commitment to supporting Somalia’s next generation of aviation professionals.
The program is one of several field-based learning initiatives organized by Mogadishu University in close alignment with national development goals.
As Somalia invests in rebuilding critical infrastructure, including airports and air navigation systems, education and training are playing a central role in preparing local talent to lead the sector.
“This initiative reflects our shared vision of a stronger, safer, and more connected Somalia,” said a university representative. “By equipping students with real-world experience, we are laying the groundwork for a thriving, locally-led aviation industry.”
Officials at Shaati Gaduud Airport welcomed the partnership and pledged continued cooperation with academic institutions to support professional training and workforce development in the aviation field.
With increased investment and strategic partnerships, Somalia is positioning itself as a regional aviation hub.
The Federal Government’s commitment to modernizing air transport infrastructure and expanding human capital is seen as vital to boosting economic growth, regional connectivity, and national resilience.
