GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia and China have agreed to strengthen cooperation in public sector auditing, with a focus on technical training and institutional alignment, officials said after talks in Mogadishu.

Auditor General Ahmed Isse Gutale met Chinese Ambassador Wang Yu alongside senior officials from the Office of the Auditor General to discuss frameworks aimed at improving financial oversight and accountability standards.

Central to the discussions was the expansion of advanced training opportunities for Somali auditors, including specialised master’s degree programmes at Nanjing Audit University. Officials said the initiative is intended to build technical capacity within Somalia’s financial oversight institutions and enhance governance practices.

The two sides also agreed to establish closer institutional links between their respective supreme audit bodies to facilitate the exchange of expertise and best practices in safeguarding public resources.

Gutale welcomed what he described as China’s continued support for Somalia’s institutional development, noting that stronger audit systems are key to improving transparency and public trust.

Somalia and China established diplomatic ties in 1960, a relationship both governments say remains central to expanding cooperation in governance and economic development.
