Somalia condemns Istanbul terror attack, terms it heinous violent acts of terrorism

The government of Somalia has unequivocally condemned the terror attacks in Istanbul Sunday which killed 11  people.

In a statement Tuesday night, Somalia through the office of the president said the attack on civilians is ‘the greatest sign of their inhumanity and moral bankruptcy. Any violence against civilians, the government noted is deplorable and wholly evil.

“The fact that the terrorist would target innocent people in such a brutal and unforgivable manner is the greatest sign of their
inhumanity, and moral bankruptcy. Any violence against innocent civilians aimed at terrorizing them and their nation is deplorable and
wholly evil” read the statement in part.

Speaking at the scene of the blast in the district of Beyazit, Istanbul Governor Vasip Sahin said, said a further 34  people were still being treated in hospital, with 15 in a serious condition. At least one or two of the dead were attackers, he said.

Somalia noted it was senseless and violent attacks will only united and strengthen Turkey and the world’s response to terrorism.

“The government of Somalia is working hard to tackle terrorism within our borders and the wider region. Terrorism is a global threat that has
deeply affected the citizens of both Somalia and Turkey. We, therefore, stand in solidarity with the brotherly People and Government of the Republic of Turkey. We mourn with them and share
their deep loss in these dark hours,” highlighted.

The attacks come barely a day after the beginning the holy month, Ramadhan.
