Somalia Condemns Israel’s ‘Flagrant Assault’ on Sovereignty, Rejects Recognition of Somaliland at UNSC

GOOBJOOG NEWS|NEW YORK: The Federal Government of Somalia has launched a blistering diplomatic attack on Israel at the United Nations Security Council, accusing Tel Aviv of violating Somalia’s sovereignty by reportedly recognizing the breakaway region of Somaliland and plotting to forcibly relocate Palestinians to the territory.
In a strongly worded address, Somalia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Abukar Dahir Osman (Baale), termed Israel’s actions a “flagrant assault” on the unity of the Horn of Africa nation.
Speaking on behalf of the “A3+” (African members of the Security Council plus Guyana), Ambassador Osman stated that any deal between Israel and the northwestern region (Somaliland) violates international law.

Violation of Sovereignty
Ambassador Osman told the Council that the reported recognition constitutes a direct breach of the UN Charter and the African Union’s constitutive act.
“This is a flagrant assault by Israel on the unity and the territorial integrity of Somalia by recognizing as an independent entity the northwestern region of Somalia, so-called Somaliland,” Ambassador Osman said.
He emphasized that the region lacks the legal standing to engage in foreign relations independently of Mogadishu.
“It is legally incapable of entering into any agreement or arrangement or recognition with another country. Any such purported arrangements are therefore null and void,” he added.

A3+ Bloc Rejects the Move
The Ambassador confirmed that the A3+ bloc aligns itself with the African Union Commission in rejecting the move, warning that it aims to fragment Somalia and destabilize the Red Sea region.
“This act of aggression is aimed at encouraging fragmentation of the territory of Somalia,” Osman stated. “A3+ therefore rejects this announcement by Israel and calls for it to be rescinded.”

Alleged Relocation of Palestinians
In a significant escalation, the Ambassador addressed reports regarding the potential displacement of Palestinians to the Horn of Africa. He stated that Somalia categorically rejects any attempt to use its territory as a solution for the displacement of people from Gaza.
“A3+ unequivocally rejects any steps aimed at advancing this objective, including any attempt by Israel to relocate the Palestinian population from Gaza to the northwestern region of Somalia,” Ambassador Osman declared.
He described the potential relocation as not only unlawful but “morally reprehensible,” warning that neither the future of the Palestinian people nor Somalia’s sovereignty should be used as a “bargaining chip.”

Call to International Community

The Ambassador also called on the UN Security Council and member states to take a unified stand against what he termed “immoral actions.”
“No external actor has the legitimacy or authority to alter the unity, the sovereignty, or territorial configuration of Somalia,” he said. “Israel’s action not only sets a dangerous precedent but also poses a serious threat to regional and international peace and security.”
