Somalia Congratulates Djibouti on 47th Independence Anniversary, Vows Closer Ties

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal Republic of Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has congratulated Djibouti on its 47th anniversary of independence and pledged to deepen cooperation between the two neighbouring Horn of Africa nations.
In a statement issued by Villa Somalia, Mohamud praised Djibouti for its consistent support to Somalia during periods of political instability and security crises. He said the two countries share a long-standing partnership rooted in cultural, linguistic, and historical ties.
“Djibouti has stood by Somalia in difficult times, and we remain grateful for its role in humanitarian support and regional peace efforts,” the statement read.
President Mohamud said Somalia was committed to enhancing bilateral relations and building on shared efforts to promote stability and development in the Horn of Africa.
Djibouti, which gained independence from France in 1977, has often served as a key diplomatic and security ally to Somalia, including through contributions to African Union peacekeeping missions and regional forums.
The Somali president’s message comes as Djibouti marks nearly five decades of statehood, with leaders from across the region offering tributes to its role in fostering cooperation and dialogue in East Africa.
