Somalia Deepens Diaspora Ties as Deputy Minister Hails Business Achievements in The Hague
GOOBJOOG NEWS | THE HAGUE: Somalia’s Deputy Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Abdirahman Yusuf Omar (Al-Adala), has called on Somali entrepreneurs abroad to play a greater role in rebuilding the nation’s economy, during the annual CMD Awards ceremony held in The Hague, Netherlands.
The event, one of the most prominent Somali diaspora gatherings in Europe, brought together business leaders, government officials, and community figures to celebrate entrepreneurial excellence and strengthen ties with the homeland.
Speaking at the ceremony, Al-Adala said the government views the Somali diaspora as a strategic partner in national recovery, citing their growing influence in trade, investment, and innovation.
“Every successful Somali business abroad represents a bridge of hope and opportunity for our country,” he said. “We want to turn that success into sustainable partnerships that create jobs, inspire youth, and build a stronger Somalia.”
The delegation, which included Somalia’s Ambassador to Brussels and other senior officials, underscored the Federal Government’s commitment to connecting with its citizens overseas, a community estimated to contribute hundreds of millions of dollars annually through remittances, investments, and knowledge transfer.
The CMD Awards recognized Somali entrepreneurs whose companies have not only flourished in Europe but also established investment linkages with Somalia’s growing private sector. Organizers said the awards reflect the diaspora’s critical role in shaping Somalia’s image as a resilient and business-ready nation.
Analysts say increased engagement between the government and diaspora investors could boost Somalia’s access to global markets, accelerate innovation, and strengthen economic stability amid ongoing reconstruction.
The ceremony concluded with renewed commitments from both sides to expand cooperation on entrepreneurship, youth empowerment, and cultural exchange, reinforcing the diaspora’s role as a driving force in Somalia’s development story.
