Somalia Defence Chief Inspects Danab Unit in Gaalkacyo

GOOBJOOG NEWS | GAALKACYO: Somalia’s Defence Minister Ahmed Macallin Fiqi and the commander of the Somali National Army, Brigadier General Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamud, visited a Danab commando unit in Gaalkacyo on Wednesday as part of an assessment of military readiness and operations in the area.

The officials inspected the headquarters of the 163rd Unit of the 16th Danab Commando Brigade, reviewing the unit’s preparedness, activities and operational needs.

Fiqi and the army commander met officers and soldiers and stressed the importance of maintaining combat readiness, strengthening coordination among security forces and carrying out their national duties, particularly protecting civilians and securing the area.

The visit also gave the Defence Ministry and military command an opportunity to assess the conditions and requirements of troops deployed in Gaalkacyo and surrounding areas.

Unit commanders briefed the delegation on their ongoing duties and operations and reaffirmed their commitment to carrying out their responsibilities.

The visit comes as Somalia continues efforts to strengthen its national security forces and increase their capacity to take greater responsibility for security amid the ongoing campaign against Al-Shabaab.
