Somalia Delays Enforcement of National ID Requirement for Domestic Travel
GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: The National Immigration and Citizenship Agency of the Federal Republic of Somalia has announced a postponement of the enforcement of a government decision requiring travelers to hold a National Identification Card for domestic travel.
In a statement, the agency said the directive, which was initially scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2026, has been deferred to March 1, 2026. The move is intended to give Somali citizens additional time to apply for and obtain the National ID card.
The agency urged the public to take advantage of the extended deadline and complete the registration process ahead of the new enforcement date, stressing the importance of complying with the national identification system once the decision comes into force.
