Somalia Denies Interference with WFP Aid at Mogadishu Port
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The federal government of Somalia has rejected allegations raised by the United States over a World Food Programme (WFP) warehouse, saying all humanitarian food supplies remain under the custody and control of the UN agency.
In a statement responding to comments from the U.S. State Department, the government said assistance provided by WFP, including U.S.-funded aid, had not been seized or misused and continued to be managed and distributed by the UN body.
The federal government further stated that the warehouse cited in recent reports is located within the Mogadishu port area, where expansion and redevelopment works are underway as part of broader infrastructure upgrades.
It added that those activities have not interfered with the storage, management or delivery of humanitarian assistance.
The government said it is reviewing the issue through a technical inter-agency committee in coordination with humanitarian partners, describing the process as aimed at addressing concerns linked to port development rather than aid operations.
Somalia reaffirmed its commitment to humanitarian principles, transparency and accountability, and said it values its partnership with the United States and other international donors, adding that further updates would be provided once the review is completed.
