GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia and Djibouti have agreed to strengthen defence and security cooperation, a move officials said would support Somalia’s stabilisation efforts and improve regional coordination against shared security threats.

The understanding was reached during talks between Somali Defence Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi and his Djiboutian counterpart Hassan Omar Mohamed, held in Mogadishu on the sidelines of a regional defence meeting.

Both sides said closer cooperation is expected to enhance joint planning, intelligence sharing and operational coordination, helping Somalia strengthen its security forces while contributing to broader stability in the Horn of Africa.

The discussions also reaffirmed Djibouti’s continued role in supporting Somalia’s security transition, including its contribution to the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia, which officials said remains critical to sustaining recent security gains.

Deeper defence ties is also expected reinforce Somalia’s state-building process and strengthen regional security frameworks as the country works to reduce reliance on international forces.
