Somalia, Egypt Ink Landmark Agreements to Boost Relations

GOOBJOOG NEWS | CAIRO: The Federal Republic of Somalia and Egypt have entered landmark agreements aimed at bolstering bilateral relations.

The deal was signed during a high-level meeting between Somalia’s president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi in Cairo, Egypt, further deepening historical ties between the two nations.

The two nations agreed to advance collaboration across various sectors, including education, justice, politics, security, cooperation, and the economy.

According to the agreement, Egypt’s Al-Azhar Al-Sharif University will increase scholarships and training opportunities for Somali students and professionals, fostering the development of diverse knowledge and skills.

The two sides also pledged to accelerate cooperation between their respective institutions, particularly in the judiciary and security sectors where Egypt affirmed its support for the Somali government and people in their ongoing fight against terrorism.

A landmark agreement was also signed to exempt Somali diplomatic passport holders from entry requirements, a move aimed at enhancing diplomatic cooperation and easing travel for all citizens of both nations.

The two leaders emphasized the significance of these agreements in strengthening the bonds between the two countries and tasked the Somali and Egyptian Joint Committees with swiftly implementing these agreements to achieve the shared goal of brotherly cooperation.
