GOOBJOOG NEWS | OSLO: Somalia’s National Security Advisor, Hussein Sheikh Ali, met with Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, on the sidelines of the Oslo Forum 2025, reaffirming the two countries’ shared commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation in security and development.

The high-level meeting focused on enhancing collaboration in counterterrorism, trade, and regional stability. Both officials emphasized the strategic importance of fostering stronger ties between Cairo and Mogadishu, particularly in light of escalating threats posed by extremist groups in East Africa.

Foreign Minister Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s long-standing support for Somalia, especially in strengthening its security apparatus and building resilient government institutions. He also confirmed Egypt’s participation in AUSSOM (the African Union-led Security Support Operation in Somalia), marking a notable step in joint efforts to combat Al-Shabaab militants.

“Egypt stands firmly with Somalia in its pursuit of peace and good governance,” Abdelatty said, highlighting Egypt’s readiness to contribute troops and logistical support under the AUSSOM mandate.

National Security Advisor Hussein Sheikh Ali welcomed the renewed engagement, stating that Egypt’s support is pivotal in Somalia’s path toward lasting stability and economic recovery.

This diplomatic exchange comes at a time when regional cooperation is viewed as essential to neutralizing cross-border security threats and unlocking economic potential. The two nations are expected to follow up with joint mechanisms aimed at accelerating cooperation on both military and development fronts.

The Oslo Forum, co-hosted by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue, serves as an informal platform for dialogue among global peace and security actors.
