GOOBJOOG NEWS | AL-ALAMEIN: Somalia and Egypt are looking to deepen economic ties, with Presidents Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Abdel Fattah El-Sisi discussing trade, investment and broader economic cooperation during talks in the Egyptian coastal city of Al-Alamein.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Africa Business Forum, where Hassan Sheikh is attending discussions focused on expanding investment and commercial opportunities across the continent.

The two presidents discussed ways to strengthen the longstanding relationship between Mogadishu and Cairo, with particular attention to economic cooperation and investment.

The talks add an economic dimension to increasingly close relations between the two countries, which have expanded in recent years across political, security and development issues.

For Somalia, stronger economic engagement with Egypt comes as Mogadishu seeks to attract investment and broaden partnerships to support economic development.

Egypt, meanwhile, has maintained longstanding political and strategic relations with Somalia, including cooperation in areas ranging from security and education to trade and development.

The meeting in Al-Alamein was one of several bilateral engagements taking place on the sidelines of the Africa Business Forum, as African leaders use the gathering to discuss ways of expanding intra-African trade, investment and economic cooperation.

The presidents did not announce specific investment agreements or new projects following their meeting.
