Somalia, Egypt Reaffirm Strategic Ties and Reject Any Threats to Somalia’s Sovereignty

CAIRO — SomaliGOOBJOOG NEWS|CAIRO: resident Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Monday held talks in Cairo with his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, with the two leaders underscoring the strength of the historic relationship between Somalia and Egypt.

Following their meeting, the presidents addressed a joint press conference, highlighting expanded cooperation in security and development, and a shared vision for regional peace and stability.The two leaders reaffirmed their firm commitment to safeguarding Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.

President Mohamud condemned what he described as illegal steps taken by Israel regarding the recognition of Somalia’s northern region of Somaliland, warning that such actions violate international law and the principles of the United Nations and the African Union.

“These actions risk inflaming tensions and creating opportunities for extremist groups that thrive on instability,” President Mohamud said.The Somali leader thanked President el-Sisi and the Egyptian government for their warm reception and for Egypt’s continued support for Somalia’s unity, sovereignty, and state-building efforts, noting that such backing is deeply appreciated by the Somali people.

President el-Sisi, for his part, reiterated Egypt’s respect for Somalia’s independence, territorial integrity, and non-interference in its internal affairs, stressing that Somalia’s stability and development are of strategic importance to the wider region.
