Somalia, Egypt Sign Landmark Visa-Free Deal for Diplomats

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia and Egypt have finalized a major agreement allowing visa-free entry for holders of diplomatic passports, a move aimed at deepening ties between the two nations.
The deal, approved Thursday by Somalia’s Council of Ministers, permits diplomats from both countries to travel visa-free for stays of up to 90 days.
Officials say the waiver will ease diplomatic engagement and bolster bilateral cooperation in areas including security, trade, and cultural exchange.
Somalia’s cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre, ratified the agreement following its signing in Cairo by Somali Foreign Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi Ahmed and his Egyptian counterpart, Dr. Badr Abdelatty.
Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi witnessed the signing.
The Somali Foreign Ministry described the agreement as a step toward expanding international partnerships and facilitating official travel for government representatives.
The deal marks a notable development in Somalia-Egypt relations, which have seen growing alignment on regional issues and collaborative development efforts.
