Somalia Elected Alternate External Auditor of AFROSAI-A
GOOBJOOG NEWS|CAIRO: Somalia has been elected Alternate External Auditor of the African Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions for Arabic-speaking countries (AFROSAI-A) for a three-year term from 2026 to 2029. The election took place during the organisation’s inaugural conference in Cairo, Egypt, which was attended by Somalia’s Auditor General, Ahmed Issa Gutale.
During the conference, Algeria’s Auditor General was also elected as AFROSAI-A’s External Auditor for the same period.
Gutale thanked AFROSAI-A for the confidence placed in Somalia’s Office of the Auditor General. He said the election reflects Somalia’s growing importance and role in strengthening cooperation among supreme audit institutions across Africa.
He also stressed the need for AFROSAI-A to move beyond its founding stage and become fully operational and effective. This would enhance professional cooperation and facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise among its member institutions.
AFROSAI-A comprises nine African countries and aims to strengthen cooperation, advance auditing standards and promote knowledge-sharing among supreme audit institutions in Arabic-speaking African nations.
Somalia’s election as Alternate External Auditor also provides an opportunity for the Office of the Auditor General to expand its international partnerships in public-sector auditing, transparency and institutional accountability.
