Somalia Ends Visa-Free Entry With Launch of E-Visa System

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said on Wednesday that foreigners, including those of Somali origin, will no longer be allowed to enter the country without a visa, as his government rolled out a new digital entry system.

“The Somali passport does not allow you to enter another country without a visa; similarly, a foreigner or a person of Somali descent cannot enter our country without a visa,” Mohamud said in a speech in Mogadishu.

The E-visa program, introduced on Sept. 1, requires all travelers to apply online before arrival. Authorities say the system is intended to tighten border security and streamline immigration procedures.

Mohamud also used his address to reaffirm the government’s push to complete constitutional reforms, which he said were vital to resolving political disputes and strengthening state institutions.

Officials describe both measures as part of Somalia’s broader effort to modernize governance and enhance stability.
