Somalia, Ethiopia Renew Push for Stability and Development in the Region

GOOBJOOG NEWS | BAHIR DAR, Ethiopia: Ethiopia and Somalia have renewed their pledge to strengthen cooperation for peace and stability in the Horn of Africa, as leaders and regional officials gathered for the 11th Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa.

Speaking at the opening of the forum in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Hadera Abera said Addis Ababa remains committed to advancing regional peace through dialogue and collaboration.

“Ethiopia will continue to play its crucial role in ensuring peace and stability in the Horn of Africa,” he said, emphasizing that security in one nation directly affects its neighbors.

Somalia’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ali Mohamed Omar, highlighted Mogadishu’s efforts to rebuild government institutions and restore national stability after years of conflict. He said Somalia’s recovery depends on regional solidarity and continued cooperation with neighboring countries.

IGAD’s representative to the African Union, Maureen Achieng, also underscored the bloc’s growing role in promoting dialogue, resolving conflicts, and driving regional integration.

The forum, attended by policymakers, scholars, and diplomats, called for faster collective action to address shared security and development challenges across the Horn of Africa.
