GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Federal Ministry of Defense and the European Union have inaugurated the renovated General Dhagabadan Training Camp in Mogadishu, part of a wider programme to strengthen the Somali National Army (SNA) and improve its training facilities.

State Minister of Defence Omar Ali Abdi and EU Ambassador to Somalia Francesca Di Mauro led the ceremony, which was also attended by senior Somali military officials and representatives from the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).

Under the EU-funded Somali National Army Support Project (Phase 3) of the European Peace Facility, the initiative includes the reconstruction of army camps and the delivery of new military vehicles and equipment aimed at enhancing troop readiness and professionalism.

“The EU’s support remains vital to Somalia’s security transition and state-building process,” Abdi said at the event, thanking international partners for their continued engagement.

The project reflects the EU’s long-term commitment to help Somalia build a capable, unified national army as African Union peacekeepers gradually hand over security responsibilities to Somali forces.
