Somalia Eyes Economic Gains as Turkey Opens Door for Somali Exports

GOOBJOOG NEWS | ISTANBU: Somalia is set to gain new trade and investment opportunities after its Commerce and Industry Minister, Mahamud Ahmed Adan (Geesood), reached an agreement with Turkish Trade Minister Ömer Bolat to expand market access for Somali products.
The meeting, held during the Turkey–Africa Business and Economic Forum in Istanbul, focused on enabling Somali fish, minerals, and agricultural produce to enter the Turkish market — a move expected to boost export earnings and strengthen Somalia’s private sector.
Officials said the talks mark a significant step in Somalia’s efforts to diversify its economy and attract foreign investment, positioning the country as an emerging player in regional trade.
The strengthened partnership with Turkey is also expected to enhance capacity building and open new avenues for Somali entrepreneurs, further supporting job creation and economic resilience.
