GOOBJOOG NEWS | WASHINGTON: Somalia has reaffirmed its commitment to economic recovery and global integration at the 2025 Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, with a focus on securing partnerships to support growth, investment, and financial resilience.

Mohamed H. Shire, Director General of Somalia’s Ministry of Planning, Investment and Economic Development, represented the country at a high-level session of the African Consultative Group (ACG), which gathered senior officials from across the continent under the theme “Strengthening Africa’s Resilience.”

The session, opened by IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, addressed mounting challenges facing African economies, including debt sustainability, inflationary pressures, and the impact of global economic shifts. Leaders also explored opportunities to strengthen regional trade and enhance economic integration.

For Somalia, the talks offered a vital platform to advocate for support in its ongoing state-building and recovery process. The government is seeking stronger international cooperation as it moves to attract investment, stabilize public finances, and foster inclusive economic growth.

“Somalia’s active role in these meetings signals our determination to shape our own development trajectory through meaningful global partnerships,” said Shire, highlighting the country’s need for sustained support in strengthening institutions and driving reforms.

The meetings come at a critical time for Somalia, which continues to recover from decades of conflict and economic instability. Participation in such global forums is seen as key to building credibility, engaging with financial institutions, and accessing development financing.

The IMF and World Bank Spring Meetings convene annually to address pressing global financial issues, bringing together central bank governors, finance ministers, and development leaders from around the world.
