Somalia Eyes Stronger Security Ties Abroad as Defence Minister Visits Berlin Embassy

GOOBJOOG NEWS | BERLIN: Somalia is seeking to deepen international cooperation on security and peacekeeping, as State Minister of Defence Omar Ali Abdi met with officials at the Somali Embassy in Berlin, during a working visit tied to a United Nations peacekeeping conference.
The minister was received by Somali Ambassador to Germany Abdiaziz Mohamud Farabadane and Deputy Ambassador Dahir Salad Hassan.
Discussions focused on strengthening coordination between Somalia’s Ministry of Defence and its diplomatic mission in Berlin, with an emphasis on security partnerships, training opportunities, and support for Somalia’s stabilization efforts.
“The visit highlights the critical role embassies play in advancing Somalia’s national defence priorities,” Ambassador Farabadane said following the meeting. “Engaging directly with defence leadership allows for better alignment of our diplomatic and security agendas.”
The Berlin stop came on the sidelines of the UN peacekeeping summit held in the German capital from May 13–14, where Somalia took part in discussions on international peace support operations and post-conflict rebuilding.
Officials said the meeting underlined Somalia’s efforts to mobilize diplomatic channels in support of military reform and the ongoing fight against terrorism and insurgency at home.
The delegation included Suldan Farah Ahmed, Political Affairs Advisor to the Minister of Defence.
