Somalia Moves Closer to EAC Integration as EALA Candidate Registration Ends

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia has completed the registration of candidates for its upcoming election to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), the joint parliamentary committee overseeing the process has said.

The committee, chaired by Member of Parliament Mohamed Abdullahi Hassan, confirmed that registration and certification were finalized on October 15 ahead of the vote scheduled for October 16.

Somalia will elect nine representatives to the regional parliament, marking another step in its integration into the East African Community (EAC), which the country joined in November 2023.

Officials say the new lawmakers will help advance Somalia’s political, economic, and social interests within the regional bloc.
