Somalia Football Chief Praises Diplomatic Support for U-15 Team in Azerbaijan
GOOBJOOG NEWS | BAKU: Somalia’s football federation has praised the country’s diplomatic mission in Azerbaijan for supporting its under-15 national team during their stay in the country, highlighting the growing role of diplomatic engagement in promoting Somali sports abroad.
Somali Football Federation President Ali Abdi Mohamed, popularly known as Ali Shiine, made the remarks during a visit to the Somali Embassy in Baku, where he met Ambassador Abdinur Dahir Fidow.
Mohamed thanked the ambassador for closely following the welfare of the young players and accompanying officials during their stay in Azerbaijan, describing the embassy’s assistance as an important contribution to the team’s activities abroad.
He also commended the diplomatic mission for its efforts to strengthen Somalia’s international relations and represent the country’s interests.
Ambassador Fidow briefed the football chief on the embassy’s activities and ongoing efforts to deepen diplomatic cooperation between Somalia and Azerbaijan.
The meeting comes as Somalia seeks to expand opportunities for young athletes to gain international exposure and experience, with overseas competitions and sporting exchanges playing an important role in developing the country’s emerging football talent.
Somalia has been working to rebuild its football structures after decades of conflict and limited investment in sporting infrastructure, with youth development increasingly seen as essential to the national team’s long-term progress.
The engagement also reflects Somalia’s efforts to strengthen its diplomatic presence in Azerbaijan and support Somali delegations visiting the country.
