Somalia Formally Begins 2-Year Term at UN Security Council
GOOBJOOG NEWS|NEW YORK: Somalia has formally assumed its position at the UN Security Council about five decades since it last sat at the 15-member Council.
Somalia’s Permanent Mission at the UN said in a post of its X account that it had rejoined the Council after 54 years following its election last October.
Somalia alongside Algeria and Guyana represents Africa for the two-year period at the UN Security Council. Somalia was last at the Security Council in 1972.
Somalia’s Permanent Representative Abukar Osman said Somalia was ‘ready to take up our responsibility in maintaining international peace and security.’
