GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia has graduated a new batch of elite Gorgor Special Forces, a move that will strengthen the country’s counter-terrorism operations and improve the overall capability of the national armed forces.

Defence Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi presided over the conclusion of the training programme at the TURKSOM Military Training Academy, saying the graduation reflects sustained efforts to professionalise and modernise the Somali National Armed Forces.

Officials said the newly trained units are expected to play a decisive role in ongoing operations against militant groups, bolstering security and supporting the government’s push to stabilise the country and protect civilians.

Fiqi urged the forces to uphold Somalia’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, stressing discipline and commitment as key to maintaining recent security gains.

The graduation showcased advanced combat, weapons-handling and self-defence skills, underscoring what military officials described as improved operational readiness and training standards.

Senior Somali and Turkish military officials attended the ceremony, highlighting the continued role of international partnerships in building Somalia’s security institutions as the country works toward greater self-reliance in defence.
