Somalia Grounds Eight Aircraft Over Safety Violations

Storyline:National News

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s Civil Aviation Authority has suspended eight aircraft from operating in the country after safety inspections uncovered regulatory violations.

The Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) said ramp inspections identified deficiencies that amounted to non-compliance with national aviation regulations and international standards.

In a letter dated Feb. 16, the authority rescinded the air operator certificates of the affected aircrafts, citing what it described as an unacceptable level of safety risk if operations were allowed to continue.

The SCAA said it is mandated to enforce compliance with the Standards and Recommended Practices set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), particularly provisions relating to aircraft operations and airworthiness.

The suspensions took effect immediately, as regulators moved to reinforce oversight of the sector and align Somalia’s aviation industry with international safety requirements.
