Somalia Highlights Domestic Revenue Gains As Government Presents 2025 Economic Report

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU : The Federal Government says 2025 recorded the highest level of financial transfers to Federal Member States, as it highlighted gains in domestic revenue mobilisation and public financial management reforms.
Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre said the government had not politicised financial support to regional administrations, amid broader discussions over fiscal relations between the federal government and member states.
“The government has not politicised, and will not politicise, the financial support it provides to the Federal Member States. The year 2025 was the year in which the largest amount of financial support was provided to the Federal Member States,” Barre said.
The remarks came during the presentation of Somalia’s 2025 Economic Report, prepared by the Ministry of Finance. The report covers the country’s overall economic performance, changes in external financial assistance and progress in reforming the national financial system.
Barre said Somalia continued to record economic growth despite domestic and external pressures, attributing the performance to the resilience of the population and efforts by government institutions.
He also highlighted increased domestic revenue, greater transparency and accountability, and improvements in public financial management as key areas of progress during the year.
The prime minister said the government would continue economic reforms aimed at improving the environment for domestic and foreign investment, including strengthening the legal and policy frameworks governing investment and economic activity.
