Somalia to hold prayers for rain as drought persists
Somalis across the country are expected to hold special prayers for rains in different towns today as the drought in the country worsens.
The prolonged drought in the Horn of Africa nation has prompted leaders, clerics and locals to seek divine intervention for rains.
Somali president, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has set Tuesday as national prayer day for rains.
He called on the Somali people to participate in the prayers for the rain and forgive one another.
“I call on the Somali public to participate in Tuesday’s rain-seeking prayers and take part in the ongoing efforts to help the drought-affected population.”
Sheikh Bashiir Ahmed Salad, the chairperson Somali Clerics Association said last week that they would pray for rains, peace and prosperity.
“We have a duty to turn back to God for his intercession at a time like this because we are suffering as a result of failure of rains and severe drought ravaging parts of Somalia,” Salad said last week.
Salad urged other imams countrywide to conduct the special prayers.
