GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Ministry of Education has launched final examinations for the first batch of government-trained teachers, marking a key step in efforts to rebuild the Somalia’s education system after decades of conflict.

The exams, administered by Somali National University, conclude a two-year national training programme designed to certify qualified educators. The first group, recruited in 2023, is sitting for their final tests this week, while a second cohort enrolled in 2024 moves into its final year.

Officials say the programme is aimed at creating a skilled teaching workforce capable of delivering quality education nationwide. Graduates will be deployed to schools across the country once certified.

Somalia’s education sector has struggled with shortages of trained teachers and limited resources.

Authorities say the initiative reflects a broader government commitment to reforming education, investing in human capital and offering new opportunities for the country’s youth.
