Somalia Honors Cultural Roots with World Art Day Celebration

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism marked World Art Day with a vibrant celebration spotlighting the nation’s rich cultural heritage and the creative potential of its youth.
Held in Mogadishu for the second consecutive year, the event brought together government officials, cultural leaders, and private art companies to honor Somali art, literature, and tradition.
The celebration featured a striking exhibition of handmade works by young artists, capturing both modern expression and deep-rooted cultural identity.
“Our heritage is the soul of the Somali people,” said Aadan Abdiqani Awale, Director of the Department of Culture and Research. “Today is a reminder of the power of art to preserve our identity and shape our future.”
Director General Abdullahi Hayir Ducaale called for formal programs to support Somali creators and expand access to training, funding, and global platforms.
Maslax Abidahir, speaking for a local art-focused enterprise, stressed the role of private companies in driving creative industry growth and offering new opportunities for Somali youth.
