Somalia Honors Media, Military, and Citizens for Contributions to Independence Week Celebrations

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s Organizing Committee for National Independence Week held a ceremony on Saturday evening to recognize individuals and institutions who played a key role in this year’s nationwide celebrations marking the country’s independence.
Certificates of recognition were awarded to national and independent media outlets, youth participants active on social media, and members of the Somali National Armed Forces, among other contributors who supported events across the capital, Mogadishu.
Senior government officials, including the Minister of Interior, Minister of Defence, Deputy Minister of Information, and the State Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, attended the event and delivered remarks. The officials commended the honorees for their commitment to promoting patriotism, civic engagement, and national pride during the celebrations.
In their speeches, they urged Somalis to continue upholding the principles of unity, peace, and sovereignty, values central to the country’s hard-won independence.
Somalia marked its 64th Independence anniversary on July 1, commemorating the unification of British Somaliland and Italian Somaliland in 1960.
