GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) agreed to intensify coordination on regional peace and security following talks in Mogadishu between Foreign Minister Abdisalam Ali and IGAD Special Envoy for South Sudan Moussa Djama Ali.

According to the Foreign Ministry, both sides committed to closer collaboration in supporting stability efforts in South Sudan and enhancing regional security mechanisms under Intergovernmental Authority on Development frameworks.

The envoy also welcomed Somalia’s recent election to the African Union Peace and Security Council, a development seen as strengthening Mogadishu’s diplomatic leverage in continental peace and security discussions.

For Somalia, the outcome reinforces its expanding regional role, positioning it as a more influential actor within the Horn of Africa.

Enhanced coordination with IGAD is expected to bolster Somalia’s diplomatic standing, support its security priorities, and deepen its integration within East African political and economic structures.

The meeting reflects Mogadishu’s strategy to translate diplomatic gains into stronger regional partnerships aimed at long-term stability and development.
