GOOBJOOG NEWS | NAIROBI: Somalia is seeking to accelerate the modernization of its national media and cultural sectors through expanded cooperation with India, with a focus on digital transformation, professional training and stronger links between cultural institutions.

The partnership is expected to support efforts to improve the skills of Somali media and cultural workers while helping public institutions transition toward more digital systems.

Somalia’s Information, Culture and Tourism Minister Abdifatah Qasim Mohamed said India’s support has contributed to efforts to develop the country’s national media, strengthen staff capacity and support Somalia’s cultural troupe.

The minister made the remarks during an engagement with India’s High Commissioner to Kenya and ambassador to Somalia, Adarsh Swaika, in Nairobi.

The cooperation also covers closer ties between arts and cultural groups, potentially creating greater opportunities for cultural exchange and collaboration between institutions in the two countries.

The shift toward digital media and public information systems comes as federal government institutions seek to modernize how information is produced, managed and delivered to the public. Building professional capacity remains a key part of that transition.

India has increasingly used technical cooperation and capacity-building programmes as part of its engagement with African countries, including support in areas such as digital technology, public-sector development and skills training.

Abdifatah Qasim thanked the Indian government for its support and described the cooperation as important to strengthening Somalia’s media and cultural institutions.

The engagement highlights a broader effort by Somalia to build institutional capacity while using international partnerships to support the modernization of sectors that shape public information, cultural preservation and national identity.
