Interior Minister Urges India to Ease Travel for Somalis Seeking Treatment, Education
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s Interior Minister, Ahmed Fiqi has called on the government of India to ease visa clearance for Somalis seeking education and treatment in India.
The minister made the remarks in Mogadishu following a meeting with a high-level delegation from India led by Dr. Sureh Kumara from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Fiqi urged the Indian government to consider re-opening its embassy in Somalia to make it easier for citizens from both countries to acquire travel documents.
“The discussions emphasized collaborative efforts between the two governments to streamline visa procedures and provide necessary support to Somali citizens seeking medical and educational opportunities in India,” a statement from the Somalia Ministry of Interior reads in part.
The statement further adds that Minister Fiqi also advocated for an expanded visa service and proposed the establishment of a consulate in Somalia to facilitate visa applications for healthcare and educational purposes.
During the meeting, the two sides also discussed cooperation between the countries and the progress that the Somali government had made in security and development projects.
