GOOBJOOG NEWS|ENTEBBE: Somalia and Uganda have signed memorandum of understanding aimed at bolstering trade, security and diplomatic cooperation following President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s visit to the East African nation.

a statement from Villa Somalia said the two countries signed MoUs on defence, trade and political cooperation following the convening of a Joint Permanent Commission which serves as a focal point of cooperation between the two countries.

President Mohamud lauded Uganda for its contribution in stabilising Somalia through the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS). Uganda was the first country to deploy to Somalia under ATMIS predecessor AMISOM in 2007 following the rise of the militant group Al-Shabaab.

On his part, President Yoweri Museveni pledged his support to fast-track Somalia’s entry into the East Africa Community.

The trip is the 8th since President Mohamud was elected on May 15.
