GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia has launched a new satellite-based weather monitoring and forecasting system, a significant step in modernizing the country’s aviation infrastructure.

According to the Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA), the system, part of the Meteosat Third Generation (MTG) satellite technology, delivers real-time and high-precision climate data.

Officials say the upgrade will improve flight safety and strengthen the country’s capacity to monitor changing weather patterns.

“This is more than a technical upgrade. It is a strategic achievement for Somalia’s climate resilience, aviation safety, and regional leadership in modern air navigation services,” said Ahmed Moallin Hassan, Director General of the SCAA.

The initiative aligns Somalia with other African nations investing in next-generation meteorological systems, potentially positioning the country as a hub for aviation and climate data services in the Horn of Africa.
