Somalia Integrates Social Response System into National Disaster Framework
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia has formally integrated a Social Disaster Response System into its national disaster management framework as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s capacity to respond to recurring crises.
According to the Somali Disaster Management Agency officials, the system has been recognized under the country’s new National Disaster Management Policy, marking a shift from planning toward building structured response mechanisms.
The officials said Somalia faces persistent challenges including drought, conflict and the impacts of climate change, warning that delays in responding to disasters can result in severe humanitarian and economic losses.
The agency also called on international partners to channel future support through the National Disaster Risk Management Fund to strengthen national capacity and improve the country’s emergency response systems.
Agency officials thanked partners including the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office and the World Food Programme for supporting the establishment and development of the disaster response system.
