Somalia Introduces Mandatory Security Clearance for Foreign Workers

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Federal Government of Somalia has announced new regulations requiring all foreign workers in Mogadishu to obtain a mandatory security clearance from the Somali Police Force.

According to a statement issued by Somali Police spokesperson Abdifatah Adan, the measure aims to enhance security in the capital.

The statement further indicates that all international organizations operating in Mogadishu must ensure their employees secure the clearance before commencing work. Additionally, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) without this clearance will be barred from collaborating with international entities.

“This measure is designed to strengthen security in Mogadishu and ensure that all foreign workers are properly vetted before engaging in activities within the capital,” the police spokesperson said.

The new directive comes amid heightened security measures by the federal government as it intensifies counter-terrorism operations against Al-Shabaab militants in the capital and across the country.

The government has announced various security initiatives aimed at preventing infiltration by hostile elements, particularly within key institutions and international missions.

While the new requirement is expected to impact NGOs, aid agencies, and foreign investors operating in the country, the Somali Police have assured that the process will be streamlined to facilitate compliance while maintaining security standards.
