Somalia Introduces Mandatory Vaccination for All Travelers

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Federal Government of Somalia has announced new mandatory vaccination requirements for all travelers entering or leaving the country to curb the spread of infectious diseases, including yellow fever, poliomyelitis, and meningitis.
According to a statement from Somalia’s Ministry of Health and Human Services on Sunday, the directive takes effect immediately and will remain in force until February 10, 2025.
The ministry noted that the initiative aligns with the World Health Organization’s International Health Regulations (IHR 2005), which set global standards for disease prevention and cross-border health control.
Under the new directive, all travelers, regardless of age or nationality, must present a valid Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate at ports of entry and exit. Additionally, travelers are required to receive the vaccine at least 10 days before their travel date to ensure adequate immunity.
Vaccination services will be available at designated centers, including international airports, seaports, and public hospitals, to accommodate travelers.
Medical exemptions will be granted to individuals who cannot receive the vaccine due to specific health conditions, provided they present an official medical waiver.
Travelers who fail to meet the vaccination requirements may face public health interventions, including possible quarantine or denial of entry.
