Somalia, Iraq Agree To Boost Cooperation on Passport Security and Border Control

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s Immigration and Citizenship Authority (ICA) and Iraq’s Ministry of Interior have agreed to strengthen cooperation on passport security, border management, and migration control during talks in Mogadishu.
ICA Director General Mustafa Duhulow met an Iraqi delegation led by the minister’s advisor, Lt. General Ziyad Daha Ali, and the director of international cooperation, Lt. General Alaa Anshour Manati, at ICA headquarters.
Discussions focused on modernising Somalia’s passport system, expanding data-sharing, and building technological infrastructure.
Duhulow said the partnership would help boost security at entry points and support Somalia’s wider efforts to combat document fraud and illegal migration.
He sought Iraq’s assistance in training ICA officers and establishing a dedicated immigration training institute.
The Iraqi officials pledged technical support, training programmes, and closer coordination on travel document verification. They also invited Duhulow to visit Iraq for further talks.
The delegation toured ICA’s document inspection facilities, printing department, and e-visa unit as part of the visit.
