Somalia Joins African Medical Regulators’ Bloc in Push to Reform Health Sector

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia has joined the Association of Medical Councils of Africa (AMCOA), becoming the 24th member of the continental body that oversees medical regulation and standards across the continent.
The move signals Somalia’s renewed effort to modernize its health sector and align with regional benchmarks for medical licensing, education, and oversight.
AMCOA promotes high standards in medical practice and helps member states exchange knowledge, improve regulation, and coordinate cross-border healthcare policies.
The federal government of Somalia has embarked on wide-ranging reforms in healthcare governance, amid efforts to build public trust in health institutions and improve service delivery.
Somalia’s admission is expected to boost capacity in health regulation and open access to continental expertise, as the country continues to rebuild its institutions after decades of conflict.
