Somalia Joins Regional Telecom Talks at EACO Summit in Juba

GOOBJOOG NEWS | JUBA: Somalia’s National Communications Authority (NCA) participated in the 1st Advisory Council and the 30th Annual Assemblies of the East African Communications Organization (EACO), held in Juba, South Sudan from June 9 to 13.
The high-level gathering brought together key stakeholders from EACO’s five assemblies, regulators, postal and telecom operators, and internet service providers, from across the East African region.
Somalia’s involvement in this year’s summit is particularly significant, as it marks the country’s first engagement with EACO since officially joining the East African Community (EAC). The participation highlights Somalia’s growing commitment to aligning its communications framework with regional standards.
“Communication now transcends borders, through roaming, shared digital platforms, and cross-border cybersecurity challenges,” said Mustafa Yasin Sheikh, Director General of NCA Somalia. “These forums are crucial for strengthening cooperation and building resilient, harmonized ICT policies.”
The summit focused on enhancing regional collaboration in digital connectivity, data protection, spectrum management, and innovation to drive socio-economic growth across the region.
Somalia’s active role in the discussions reflects its broader ambition to modernize its telecommunications sector and deepen integration with East Africa’s digital economy.
