Somalia, Kenya Agree to Deepen Diplomatic Ties
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Federal Republic of Somalia and Kenya have vowed to deepen and expand their diplomatic relationships for the mutual benefit of the two states.
Speaking while presenting copies of his credentials to Somalia’s acting Foreign Minister, Ali Mohamed Omar, Kenya’s new ambassador to Somalia Kubai Kiringo stated his enthusiasm to represent Kenya in Somalia, emphasizing his commitment to strengthening the longstanding ties between the two neighboring nations.
Kenya and Somalia have been working to strengthen trade and diplomatic ties, highlighted by the recent resumption of direct Kenya Airways flights to Mogadishu and Somalia’s admission to the East African Community.
Trade between the countries has grown, with Kenya’s exports to Somalia increasing by 51.4% in the nine months to September 2023 compared to the same period the previous year.
The meeting underscored both parties’ shared commitment to fostering enhanced bilateral relations and cooperation across various domains including security, economic development, and trade.
