Somalia, Kenya Push to Fast-Track Joint Agreements after Nairobi Talks
GOOBJOOG NEWS | NAIROBI: The Federal Government of Somalia and Kenya have agreed to accelerate implementation of key bilateral agreements and strengthen coordination across priority sectors following high-level talks in Nairobi.
Somalia’s Ambassador to Kenya, Jabril Ibrahim Abdulle, met with Kenya’s Principal Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Korir Sing’Oei, where both sides reviewed progress under the Joint Commission of Cooperation (JCC), the main framework guiding relations between the two neighbours.
The two governments committed to convene a mid-term review of the JCC to evaluate achievements, address implementation gaps and set timelines for delivery. Officials said emphasis would be placed on ensuring that agreements translate into measurable economic and social benefits for citizens in both countries.
Discussions also focused on expediting pending Memoranda of Understanding, particularly in the blue economy, trade facilitation, economic integration and cross-border movement. The move is expected to boost commerce and enhance cooperation along the shared border.
The talks come ahead of an upcoming summit of the East African Community, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to deeper regional integration and coordinated positions on matters of common interest.
Somalia and Kenya maintain close economic and security ties, with growing collaboration in maritime resources, trade and regional diplomacy.
