Somalia Launches Advanced Police Training with EU Support
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia has launched an advanced training programme for elite units of the Police Dervish (Daraawiish) Force, as authorities seek to strengthen law enforcement capacity and improve responses to security threats.
Police Commander Major General Asad Osman Abdullahi inaugurated the programme, with senior Somali officials and the head of the European Union mission in attendance.
The selected units will undergo specialised training in modern counterterrorism operations, combat tactics and operational procedures, Somali police said. The programme also emphasises compliance with national law and international human rights standards.
Officials said the training is expected to enhance the operational effectiveness of the Police Dervish force, improve coordination with other security agencies and support Somalia’s broader efforts to professionalise its security institutions.
The initiative comes as Somalia works, with backing from international partners, to build capable and accountable police forces as part of a gradual transition towards Somali-led security.
